Have you ever just been living your life, you know… just going along with your day when something so astounding and astonishing happens that you feel like you maybe just stepped into a parallel universe or maybe somehow your life just turned into a real-life movie? Yeah, we’ve got a couple of those types of stories on today’s show when myself and my sister Erin find ourselves in situations we absolutely do not expect.Erin finds herself in not one, but two scenes that she swears could be a movie. Next, I need a place to stay in LA and my friend comes through in the most remarkable way! Last, we have a cute little story from a new call-in storyteller, Melanie.
Written, produced and hosted by Kim A. Flodin
We were raised in Minnesota and anyone who lives in Minnesota knows that one of the most common vacation destinations during the summer months is “up north”. Up north meaning literally anywhere north of where you are and also the northern half of the state.
Minnesota also more than lives up to it’s slogan of the land of 10,000 lakes… in reality there are 11, 842 lakes bigger than 10 acres each… but who’s counting besides the DNR… anyway, it’s a gorgeous state literally peppered with thousands and thousands of lakes and the thing to do there when the weather is nice is to “head up north to one of those lakes, which is what Kari and her friends do… head north to an area filled with lakes and the small towns and people who depend on those lakes and their visitors for their livelihoods. In today’s story…. Kari gives you a glimpse into what it means to head “up north” to the lakes of Minnesota and the kinds of adventures you might have in the show we’re calling Welcome to Lake Vermilion or how in the hell did I end up here on vacation? In this week’s episode, we find myself (Kim) and Jenny traveling together on a sister’s weekend to the beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota and everything is going right… it seems like it’s going to be an awesome vacation… maybe?
Our second and third stories this week are two, cute short, and of course, funny, moments in the lives of Erin and then myself. First off, Erin shares a sort of cautionary tale and then I proudly share another embarrassing moment about a tail, but not the kind of tale you tell. This is Kim A. We've all had strange encounters with animals... maybe a bat swoops through your living room, a deer jumps in front of your car, or a mouse runs up to you in the kitchen, and in true How in the Hell did I get here fashion, sisters Jenny Gardner, Kim A. Flodin, and Erin Beach take it up a notch in this episode featuring three stories of strange encounters with animals.
In the first story, Jenny shares the time she had a real-life sighting of Monkey Dog! What's a monkey dog you ask? Listen in to find out! In the next story, Kim, Jenny and Erin share a harrowing tale of a dark and misty night at Jenny and family's hobby farm. What was that thing shuffling and snorting in the shadows? Is it dangerous? Will it eat the dog? Will anyone ever respond to Erin's screams of terror? In our final story, Kim ventures out of the country for the very first time and finds herself in a hostage situation... with a monkey! Note: You can see the dog with the human face in our Facebook group!
